“It takes a big man to admit his mistakes, and I am that big man.”
Arctic Zero was on my shitlist for a while. I had only tried one flavor, and from what I could tell, it was just another “diet” ice cream trying too hard to be the real thing and failing, miserably. So, when AZ extended an offer to try their 5 newest flavors, I almost immediately rejected them. However, one of the many steps I have been taking in an attempt to open more doors in the world I live in and continue to learn, grow, and find joy, is giving second chances.
I’m sure glad I did. Obviously, these products will not taste like “the real thing,” but I was sorely mistaken when I labeled AZ as just another marketing ploy with its talons in those seeking to lose weight by having their diet cake and eating it, too. Undoubtedly, AZ is a low-calorie option, but that’s not all. It is lactose-free, giving those with lactose intolerance another option to enjoy a frozen treat—considering that, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, about 30 million Americans have some degree of lactose intolerance by the age of 20, this is a very large target audience. In my own experience with lactose intolerance, I have found that when I consume dairy products (especially full-fat dairy products) in excess, I am inevitably asking for tummy trouble. Arctic Zero is a nice retreat from the bloating and discomfort ice cream addiction can bring…and, it’s just nice to be able to have ice cream every damn day if I want to, without sticking to the meager serving sizes of “real” ice cream. That being said, don’t expect me to be joining the “pint party” brigade and eating an entire pint with a protein bar on top. I haven’t changed THAT much.
Without further ado, I present to you my ratings of the newest Arctic Zero flavors!
Brownie Batter: 9/10
Very authentic chocolate taste with chewy brownie chunks. I ate it without any toppings and loved it!
Snickerdoodle Dandy: 9/10
A subtle snickerdoodle flavor with a nice sugar cookie chunk surprise here and there. Could use some more of those, for sure! VERY yummy topped with melted cookie butter!
Poppin’ Pomegranate: 8/10
Eaten on its own, I was not a huge fan. However, once I added a serving to my fruit&greens smoothie, I was hooked. It supplied a super smooth and thick consistency with a light pomegranate sweetness and flavor.
Banana Pudding: 7/10
Not usually a fan of banana-flavored anything, my expectations were not high. I was pleasantly surprised, though, when I tasted the subtle banana accented with the slightly crunchy, slightly soft wafer pieces.
Cake Batter: 5/10
Unforunately, I really don’t like cake batter flavored anything. However, this flavor was not too sweet, and had a creaminess to it that’s difficult to find anything to complain about.
So there you have it! Check out Arctic Zero’s newest flavors and let me know what you think!
